Lake Ray Hubbard

For water enthusiasts, the eastern boundary of Sunnyvale provides beautiful Lake Ray Hubbard, offering 22,745 acres acres of water recreation.  Fishing, water skiing, wind surfing, sailing are all only minutes away. Lake Ray Hubbard is probably the most popular body of water in the Dallas area, as well as one of the city's favorite destinations for quick-and-easy weekend getaways.  It is considered by those to be one of the best lakes for sailing.  And, the fishing is unbelievable.  No swimming is allowed.

Fishing

In the 1980's, Lake Ray Hubbard was one of the few lakes to be stocked on a continuing basis with both pure stripers and hybrids.  In April fishing for all species can be excellent.  Beneath a staggering 20,000 acres of murky deep roam untold numbers of channel catfish, crappie, and about a dozen varieties of bass.

In the area above Interstate 30, standing timber is the most abundant structure and cover in Lake Ray Hubbard.  Hydrilla is found in certain areas and attracts largemouth bass. The rock rip rap along roadways that cross the reservoir is excellent for fishing.  Predominant fish species include hybrid striped bass, white bass, largemouth bass, channel catfish, blue catfish, and white crappie.

Boating

For sailing enthusiasts, Lake Ray Hubbard offers two yacht clubs, Chandlers Landing and Captains Cove, with boats available for rental.  Wind surfing also is popular, with lessons and equipment rental available at local marinas.  Marinas also provide floating slip rental, dry boat and trailier storage, food, restrooms and showers, swimming pools, picnic and camping facilities, and more.
