Profile: Geography
The Town of Sunnyvale is located in north central Texas.
Sunnyvale also is within Dallas County, which is part of the Dallas/Fort
Worth metroplex. Sunnyvale occupies approximately 16 square
miles located on the western shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, being approximately
15 miles west of center city Dallas via Interstate 80. Major
highway service to Sunnyvale includes Interstate 80, Interstate
30, and Interstate 635 (Lyndon Baynes Johnson Freeway). In
the next several years, Highway 190 will complete its loop around
the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex including a link near Sunnyvale.
Lake
Ray Hubbard
The Town of Sunnyvale borders the southeastern edge of Lake Ray
Hubbard. This lake lies on the East Fork of the Trinity River,
bisected by Interstate Highway 30, just east of Dallas in Collin,
Rockwall and Dallas counties.
Lake Ray Hubbard was built for municipal water supply but also
features a lakeside power generating plant. Much of the north
end retains its original standing timber. Shoreline areas
have some vegetation. The water is fairly turbid, rather fertile,
and a maximum of 40 feet deep.
